Worms Like to Wiggle is a book targeting children
age birth to 8 years. It contains many elements that encourage the development
of early language, math, history, and social science skill. Not only
do the words in this book encourage the development of a child’s
noun vocabulary but their verb vocabulary as well. This then, increases
the opportunity for two word utterances. This book also intentionally
targets math concepts. All the characters in this book range in number
from 1-6. Through this intentional quantity, the concept of one to one
correspondence can be explored. Worms Like to Wiggle is also
a springboard for science concepts such as matter and earth processes.
Worms Like to Wiggle corresponds directly to state standards.
Both the Virginia Foundations Blocks for Early Learning: Comprehensive
Standards for Four-Year-Olds and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework
are linked directly to Worms Like to Wiggle through a series
of lesson plans found under “Curriculum Materials”. In addition
to lesson plans, there are many activities to help create and inspire
children’s love of literacy. Coming soon there will be a link
to “Everybody Likes to Wiggle”. This is a song that is an
extension of Worms Like to Wiggle. It will have kids up, moving
around, and working on their physical and motor development but most
importantly having fun.
In Worms Like to Wiggle, kids will enjoy their imaginary ride
down to the farm
where they can wiggle along with their favorite animals in this beginning
reader!
